A Thematic Group Exhibition Featuring Works in Black and/or White
This exhibition showcases a selection of abstract works from leading artists in recent Belgian art history, for whom the colors black and white hold a special place in their oeuvre.
The lyrical ink-on-paper works of Englebert Van Anderlecht and Marc Verstockt engage in dialogue with the mathematical and constructivist works of Albert Rubens, Gilbert De Cock, and Gilbert Swimberghe.
Notable works include characteristic slate prints by Raoul Ubac, as well as a stunning acrylic on canvas by Marcel-Henri Verdren. Calligraphic signs and pen drawings by Lismonde are also featured, alongside line drawings by Michel Seuphor.
Several watercolors by Dan Van Severen and an oil on canvas by Etienne Van Doorslaer place the work of Ghent-based artist Wim Nival within an intriguing context. The ceramics of Tjok Dessauvage add a sculptural dimension to the exhibition.
Finally, some of Bram Bogart's material works and large aquagravures serve as the focal points of this sales exhibition.
The exhibition captivates with its variety of techniques and movements, presenting powerful works that offer a perspective on the evolution of abstract art in Belgium.
